Contract out on Boreanaz for ABC show. He's set to star in an ABC drama about an undercover cop in the world of murder for hire.

Another cop show on T.V?!! I wish this cliche genre would just die. Are there not enough cop shows on TV? Anyways DB is not enough of a draw for me to watch this if it's even picked up. Angel was never one of my favorite characters in the Verse. Loved his series, wasn't THAT crazy for him or David Boreanaz.

Really?

Huh...

Well, I've always been a fan of the character of Angel and David Boreanaz.

I admit being surprised, in a way. What channel is NYPD blue on? Either way, with this being it's last season, that network could be looking for the replacement cop show, or another network could be looking to hone in on that fanbase. And who knows what his "people" are telling him? They may feel that a show on one of the big three networks will translate into a better chance at bigger budget films and more successful film career.

At any rate, I've never doubted that if the WB had announced Angel was being picked up for S6, instead of cancelling it, he would have been there for it. So, I've got no beef with him, wish him all the best, and as one of those people that does enjoy a cop show (though I do agree that the gazillion spin-offs of the same couple of shows is a little much), and as long as it's not on opposite Lost, Desperate Housewives, Alias, or Boston Legal, I'm in. Ok, and honestly, since I am a fan of DB, if I have to, I'll tape it.

Yes, NY PD Blue is on ABC. So it could be a replacement for it. I'm a little surprised; the way he sounded in interviews he wanted to concentrate on films. But I guess ABC isn't bad. However, I thought he mentioned he wanted to be able to spend more time with his family. That won't happen on another weekly series. I hope the best for him and I'll sure give it a watch (cause he's such a hottie) but I hope the writing and premise is good or it won't last long for me. I also hope it doesn't bomb and get cancelled as that wouldn't be good for David; at least he went out with Angel having had a successful run.

I'm with BurkleFreak in the dismay of there being yet another cop show coming to television, just how many more of that kind of thing can they do before there simply isn't anymore stories to tell? Surely all the CSI's and Law and Orders have done the lot already?

On the flip side it is always good to see another scripted (and not reality) series being considered and also good news for David so whilst i won't be watching i'm not going to hold it against the guy for getting on with his career. If ASH can do the dire Monarch of the Glen and i still be happy for him then this is nothing :)

ABC airs Lost, Alias, Desperate Housewives, and Boston Legal, so you should be free and clear to watch whatever show they're developing for DB. ;)

God help 'em, I don't really think we need yet another cop show. Unless it's completely different from my expectations of a network crime 'n grime, I doubt it will hold me.

With my track record for picking shows, it'll probably draw multiple times the audience that Angel ever did, and run for eight seasons. Nnng.

Little bit more info from the Hollywood Reporter:

The former star of the WB Network's "Angel" is set to star in a drama project for ABC based on the life of undercover hit man Jack Ballantine. The show, from Warner Bros. Television and studio-based Tannenbaum Co., has received a script commitment from the network.

From a souled vampire to an undercover assassin? Color me 'huh' with a little 'hmmm...' thrown in.

I'm also pretty burnt on the cop format, but if this makes it to production and pickup I'll give it a try. It sounds intriguingly dark, and I know DB can dance on that conflicted, good/bad, guilty/self-righteous line like nobody's business. Angels on the heads of pins should have it so easy. ;)

Hey I will take a zillion cop shows just so long the reality craze comes to a screeching hault. Anything is better than that stuff. Looks to me like ABC is actualy going after good scripted television witch most networks aren't. I will probably tune in as long as DB never tries an Irish accent in it...

If anyone can act out a broody undercover cop, it's DB. I also think there's an overload of cop shows. However, several of them are on their last legs. So far, ABC is batting a thousand, so I hope things work out for David. If ABC shows the same support as 'Lost', it could be successful.

Um, the reason there's so many on is because they're so popular. See also lawyer shows and doctor shows.

I'm fine with another one, if it means the networks will also have the viewers and the money to take other risks, like, say, Lost...

Good for David. :)

It was interesting to see both Sarah and David on the homepage of The Hollywood Reporter this morning. Two Jossverse actors getting headlines...I'm proud.

Well I'm surprised, because we thought he was heading for movies only, said Angel feature film, he likely then hasn't been offered big roles yet, or chosen to take some. But cop show, undercover cop in the world of murder for hire, this could be good to branch out his acting beyond the fantasy world, sounds cool, the murder for hire bit, doesn't sound like other cops shows in the past.

Too bad Joss's contract is still with the wolfham and fox networks:D

ABC seems like a good network.

Interesting. Although I rather he take up the role of Angel again (admittidly selfish), I'll give the new show a chance. It's good to see him getting work. I don't normally go for the cop show thing, though, but who knows -- it could be good.

At the London convention - David mentioned it was in development but it wasn't a sure thing. Also it's based on a real person - and it's like the TV show Wiseguy. Except he has a family which he tries to keep seperated from his work.

Good for David - guess the offer was real attractive and he believes in the show since he decided to do it instead of concentrating on movies.

I'll give it a watch - I hope it's good, I'd love to see David in a weekly show again -

Hey maybe he will need a buddy and they can use an actor like....hummmmm James Marsters. That would make me really happy - a good show with both my favorite guys!

Yeah, the Wiseguy similarity occurred to me too. Yeah, it's technically about a cop, but from the brief description, it sounds like it could be pretty good and different from all those other procedural cop shows (the CSI clones, the L&O clones, etc). Kind of like how The Shield isn't your typical cop show. I'm hoping it's good.

I'm not sure if I could handle 50 minutes of brooding every week, but I'm glad to see him getting offers. Surprised it's TV and not movies, but glad. Now all we need is Alexis Bond.

nemo - (As a lmao at myself). I was tired. Duh.

I'll definetly give it try. While I admit there are tooo many cop shows - DB is allways DB!

I just read this on the Hollywood Reporter site:
Boreanaz is repped by CAA and manager Tom Parziale. Kelly is repped by CAA.

Isn't there a big leagal battel with Disney (owner of ABC) and the higher-up that got fired since he owned a significant stake in CAA and apparently arranged for all there deals between Disney and CAA????

Congrats to David! Very happy for him and I hope it's a hit. I'd have to hear a little bit more about the premise before I decided to tune in - okay, I'm a liar, I'll tune in to check it out regardless (I did put myself through a horrible hour of TV to check out Charisma on Charmed).

Anyway, regarding the comments about him wanting more time with his family. On AtS he had a lot of stunt work he was involved with and I remember it being said for both AtS and BtVS that both lead actors had very, very long days. This show may not have as extensive stunt work as AtS did and may not have as many long days.

Yay! I would love to see David back on televison!

As would I obsessed, but there has to be something much more original than the cop genre for an actor in the Whedonverse to be on. Like say, another Whedonverse show or spinoff :D. Lol, I'm so stuck on the Whedonverse that it's hard for me to accept anything that isn't even half of what a Joss Whedon created and scripted show would.

Another cop show? Uffff... :s
I thought David didn`t want to do another TV show.

I don't want the cop genre to die, 'cause I'm kinda in love with the FX cable series The Shield (which is more of a character drama than a procedural the way most cop and forensic shows are). But I agree it's oversaturating the primetime schedule. It seems like Boreanaz has already gotten desperate. Unless the pilot script they handed him for this is flat-out amazing and he couldn't refuse.

Yeah, The Shield really shows how to do the genre right...not surprising the creator Shawn Ryan wrote for Angel.

Ah...yes The Shield...one of the few, if not the only, good cop show on TV.

RavenU

I was there like you, but didn't remember that, but interesting, it's in development, maybe someone jumped the gun?

I'm just hoping this new show will be orignial and inventive in it's own right, BurkleFreak. Maybe the genre itself has been overdone, but if they come at it with a new angle, it could be really good. *Fingers crossed*

Sean - What didn't you remember - David talking about the show or the Wiseguy thing. Cause the wiseguy thing was my take on his description of he gave the differences is he's an undercover cop with a family whose a hitman. The overall premiss of a cop in deep undercover is the same as wiseguy - that's how I saw the connection. I also remember him saying they are devloping it for ABC but it was not bought by the network yet - so it's not even close to filming stages yet just writing.

No. More. Cop. Shows. Ever.

Even if it had SMG, JM, AH, AD and AA in, I would not watch another one of these things. Enough already!

What if it was written by Joss and other ME writers? I'm willing to give Davids new show a go (if it actually makes it onto the air) since I don't really watch cop shows, never seen any incarnation of CSI or Law and Order and I stopped watching NYPD Blue years ago.

I remember now, thanks.
