Don't Firefly and Serenity count as westerns?

Well, it is supposed to be the 1870s. I don't think current day Dallas would be a very good standin for 1870s Dallas.

Independents don't always get major releases but you know what? Some of them end up doing really well. Why not give this one a chance?

Independent film has been very kind to our BDHs. Remember Waitress, and keep your fingers crossed for that kind of success.
ETA: She'll finally get to make some use of her native Texan accent. That should be fun.... Summer with a Texas drawl.

Well, Summer's role wasn't one you typically find in a Western. :) I'd like to see her playing a woman surviving out on the frontier...without the enhanced fighting skills. Although she could be a sharpshooter.

I looked up all the companies and the writer/director associated with this project and saw that they have no track record of success with TV or feature movies. I hope the project is a wild success and everyone involved makes a gazillion dollars while having the creative time of their life, however, it's a longshot. Looking at a business that is filled with luck of the draw and way more total failures than successes calmly and rationally is not an attack on anything.

Equating lack of success to failure when the real issue could just as easily be simply lack of experience/opportunity does come across as being a little harsh in my mind.

As always, I wish Summer and this project all the luck and success in the world. I also can see they have a HUGE uphill battle.

Your original comment in this thread was phrased in such a way that it sounded like you were responding to someone over-hyping the probable scale of this project. Unfortunately - since there weren't any preceding comments to that effect - yours came across as being a bit harsh. That's all.

It isn't clear to me from the description here how big of a part Summer's character is. I don't see much other information from a little Googling although apparently there was a print article in a Western magazine about this back in June.
