Oh, I do hope their sources turn out accurate. And I hope it's not just the same ol' trailer, but something beautiful and new a shiny. Oh, hope hope hope.

And while I love the old Firefly art, I'm itchin' for some new art, as well. So long as it doesn't involve a certain animal that shall remain a llama.

Now I am bound as Ahab to his whale, and shall make it my life's effort to obtain these discs and a player!

Never forget, Joss Whedon: You did this! I name you forever! You are the Destroyer of My Bank Account!
:: Sigh! ::
I'm not really mad at you. Honest.
...Just please... If you can... make sure everything else you do gets released in Blu-Ray after I do this, 'kay? I can't afford these kind of changes all the time, y'know?

Sorry, but you heard (mostly) wrong. Firefly was shot on 35mm film, which is considerably better than 1080p in terms of detail. However, the special effects sequences were rendered in 480p only, so they will most likely be upscaled to 1080p, with the non-SFX scenes being actual, derived-from-35mm 1080p. Plus, the audio will be lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, rather than the lossy 2.0 Dolby Digital that was on the DVDs. Trust me, the upgrade will be extreme, as long as you have the HDTV/sound system to take advantage of it.

which is politician-speak for "Recession".

I think part of it is just the fact that most fans don't have a Blu-ray player. So it's not going to have a huge countdown like the Collector's Edition of Serenity did. Besides, it's still several months away, so there's nothing to really get excited about yet.

I seem to remember more interest in the Serenity HD-DVD but I guess there was a belief that sales of that could lead to a sequel.
Aye. I saw the Dark Horse Serenity ships in my local comic book shop the other day and I just thought I'd love to buy them but I can't justify it at the moment.

(and I saw the 'Serenity in Disguise' model at Forbidden Planet yesterday - first time i've really been tempted by any of the ornaments but, similarly, can't justify it)
Does this mean i have to buy a Blu-Ray player? And does that mean I have to buy an HDTV?
You don't need an HDTV to watch discs on a Blu-ray player BUT you won't see it in High Definition so there's very little benefit (I guess you'd get the new extras and if you have a nice sound setup you'd benefit from the revamped sound).

True. Also, part of that might have been the fact that Serenity was Universal's very first HDM - quite an honour.
