I think both. I am following Ven from Save Hiatus, comiccon, Felicia Day, Wil Wheaton, Quoter Gal, bix, mcookies, lioness, Dr Horrible, (I think I got everyone.) So far nothing in depth, but it's fun. (Kind of wish I was there, but then I see a picture of the crowds and I remember that I hate crowds... unless there is mud and/or a mosh pit.)

Yup, links to live blogging would be great. For some reason, none of the supposedly "live blogging" at online venues like ew.com or latimes (both advertising big comicon sections) has been particularly helpful. Doesn't the world know we want a blow-by-blow about all things Whedontastic? (And Feliciatastic and Maurissatastic, of course.)

Can't wait to see pix on gossi's site. A pic of Jed with freeze ray would be spectacular. And gossi, sitting with Kaylee?! Nice.

Hmmm... wasn't there an episode of CSI where they took all the cameras from a group of kids there were taking photos at an event and they downloaded them and then some super duper computer that no State Agency has the money for took them all and made a 3D representation of the event that was almost like they just filmed it from right there in the room!? Wonder if all of the posts could be meshed together into something like that.

Or we could just wait for gossi. Personally, I want the super duper 3D version.

I hope they let enough people in this time. There's lots of seats left in the back and on the left. There are ten empty seats in a row right to my left, and it's the same for most of the rows past the halfway point on the left side. Rather than getting a seat with a good view of the stage, I settled for getting a seat with a great view of the video screens.

People are filing in, but they tend to be fighting for seats on the right. Very few are coming over to where there's plenty of room.

Scott Allie introduces Joss. Captain Hammer comic on MySpace, hopes to do more of that, and more of Serenity. Season 8 continues. Sugarshock will finally be available in print soon.

Joss looks a little discheveled. Joss came out last year and talked about things he was going to be working on, and he's accomplished none of them, except Cabin In The Woods.

All of this is organized by Dark Horse. Joss has been collaborating with Scott Allie for years.

End of Brand New Day, they were going to have a dance number, but they couldn't afford it, so make him a giant. Green screen construction paper in a park. Neil had to sing it fast, chipmunk style, so they could slow it down, then they just used the take he did normally instead.

Neil came up with the "shoulder dance" during Freeze Ray. He did the magic thing with his fingers when he was bored, and they decided to use that.

Will the soundtrack include songs from Act IV?

Joss mentioned that the soundtrack will be available for download in "a couple of weeks." This implies either:
a. They've been busy on Act IV songs and will squeeze them in
... or
b. They'll issue an Act IV "addendum" to the soundtrack later

Ideas? Answers?

Oh, that's right, yes someone did, no, it's not. It's not Nicholas Brendon either. Just an extra.

Joss is older, and balder-slash-wiser than went they made Firefly. Any episode they make is a bonus,and any they can't, he can put on the internet now. This was a model for a new way to put out things, that are for us and not so much for *certain other people*. He works with studio execs, but...

WHEN they made Firefly. (Sorry, weird typo.) The question was how Joss feels about starting another series when all his series always get horribly cancelled. So the first part was about Dollhouse, and then he's talking about Doctor Horrible after the mention of the internet. Sorry I didn't make that clear. Or evenly not completely opaque.

SteveP, I don't think there is an Act IV. They just said they'd do more Dr. Horrible, IIRC. (From other's reports.) Just that they want to do a sequel. So I would think that means that this soundtrack that is going to be released will just be for these three episodes. Unless I missed something..?

Dr. Horrible (part 2/Act IV?) news = made of amazing. I'm guessing it'll probably take a while to get to us, though.

Love the fact that Joss hates the 'shut up Dawn' tendency at sing-alongs. I've never been to one of those, but it sounds like an unnecessary line. Plus, like others upthread, I actually really like Dawn. She's an interesting character.

So, how did the crowd react? Was it filled with fans, ending with thunderous applause? Did anyone "boo" Nathan, or was it just bix? ;)

Also very interested to find out if the Sing-Along will be an actual Sing-Along this evening and what the reception of it will be like. I'll stay tuned (except, only, probably not right now, because it's 4:20 here and I should really get some sleep ;)). Too bad I can't be there to meet up with fellow whedonesquers (all this time spent here, and I have no clue what most of you guys look like :)), should be fun. Any whedonesque meet-ups going on?

Wow thanks Deanna B and everyone else who chimed in their two cents worth.

The ELOE application invitation is an amazing idea. (I kinda wish I owned a horse right now, so I could do weird digital manips of it's mouth!) With all these extras, I'm starting to anticipate a box-set sized release!

If that wasn't SMG I wonder if they consciously hired a look-alike? She does seem to be quite prominently seated next to the groupies, is all I'm sayin'.

ETA I would pay many, many crisp dollars for a sing-along comic. A CD and the basic tale, told in comic form, with a 'Play Track *' at each appropriate point.
(Actually, I lie. I would probably just get it with my credit card...)

It's probably difficult to get a real CD pressed and booklets printed, etcetera, because they'd a) have to hire a pressing plant or something similar for what will possibly be a limited seller compared to albums by big artists, thus maybe taking more money than it would make and b) because of a myriad of other possible problems, including distribution (although they've possibly already got that figured out for the DVD) and things I'm not even thinking about now (tired, need sleep).

Having said that, I'm still hoping there'll be an actual CD. I know most of us would buy it, so it would be a guaranteed limited succes (but maybe not a big enough one, to warrant actual production).

ETA: if they do sell it as mp3's, here hoping it'll be available on something other than iTunes *crosses fingers*. But if it does appear there, and if it's available internationally, I'll be sure to buy it because it's joss and co. Normally though: iTunes? Not-so-much :)

Jewel Staite misses her Shiny. She doesn't miss her ruffly dress. Bob Picardo is awesome. Now the Stargate writers are promising to pillage the cast of Firefly one by one until they've got them all. Jewel wants to make Nathan get cast as a wraith so that he would have to put on a bunch of prosthetics. The next question was also for Jewel... but they called her Kaylee. They should have just had a Firefly memorial panel or something.

How does working on Stargate compare to your work on other Sci-Fi shows?
Jewel: This one doesn't get cancelled.

Nothing to add except thank deanna b for the great reporting. I'd read Wil's Twitter about more Doc Horrible already but not the other stuff.

Also, I know it isn't my place to say so, but I think Jonathan Reilly should have a guest color for posting. If not for anything else like loaning out his house, at least for that fabulous gigantic chair!

About the cd: that's what I was thinking... about the indie bands... I have friends who made a cd here in Brazil, and I've heard it's a LOT more expensive to do it here than on the US. Althogh they only did like, 2000 copies, and Dr. Horrible would need a LOT more. I don't know... I'll just keep hoping, I guess.

And you can "follow" other peoples twitter blogs as they follow you, and you see what they are up to as they post. It's silly and yet kind of addcitive.

One of the cool things about Twitter is that you can send and receive on your cell via SMS, hence the 140 char limit.

The downside is that the service suffers from performance problems and occasional meltdowns. Twitter became very popular very quickly. As well, its creators didn't anticipate that there would be these celebrity twitterers with tens of thousands of followers each. This has resulted in scaling issues that aren't easily solved.

If they do sell it as MP3s here's hoping they, err, sell it as MP3s (no DRM on MP3s so we can all play it anywhere ;).

Not a physical CD doesn't bother me - Joss could do one of his mighty posts on here with the equivalent of liner notes and i'd be just as happy - cos I normally buy a CD, read the notes, rip it to hard-drive and then stick it in a box, never to be seen again BUT not iTunes would be very handy because I don't use it (i'd make an exception though, as I will if/when Dr H sells internationally).

And I get where Simon's coming from, right now it's small but perfectly formed and any more might just smear that perfection out over a wider area rather than add anything. But that said, the way it ended is open to more stories IMO so it can be done, it just has to be done well. Kinda lucky it's Joss/Jed/Zack/Maurissa then, eh ;).

I found some short clips on You Tube. On this one the cast talks about their favourite musicals. Here NPH talks about the shoulder dance, here about the singing and finally Felicia talks about Penny's faith. - Oh, and I want a CD too. And I think I want more Dr. Horrible. Watching it full made it feel like it was an introduction, it showed "how it all started". Then again, it does work as a complete piece as well. The continuation is going to be tricky though. I was hesitant about a sequel at first but now I think it can be done. And hopefully there will be a lot more.

I think it's a good idea if Joss & team get enough time to do it right.. With the first installment nobody knew they were doing it so they could do it at the proper pace. Now that they're living in a fishbowl we drooling fans will be clamoring for "more! faster!" In the long term the quality of what they deliver will determine the enduring value of the piece, so let's give them space to breath.

I don't know anything about producing a physical dvd, but it is no hurdle getting distribution through channels like amazon.com. They will basically list anything remotely reasonable if you ask them to, taking a cut, of course. Then you just need a place to put them while you wait, and someone to fill the orders. I'm sure, having managed to produce this complex work, that would be as nothing.

Still, if they feel they have another story to tell / more songs to sing with these characters, I'll tune in of course. Funny, this was exactly what my son said he would not want to see happen.

I am actually pretty surprised so many people are saying they do not want to see more. Many people called this an origin story. What is the point of an origin story if there is no continuing story of the character it originated?

From the first moment I saw it I felt like it was the great first act of a broadway musical and the end was time for the intermission. I just did not want the intermission to be of infinite length. ;-)

Personally I don't think you could fill in between the acts because absolutely everything we saw would be coloured by the utter desolation of "... a thing" that we knew was coming. Course, a brilliant writing team could probably somehow play off that. Anybody know one ? ;-)

Hey, I work at Eonline and the reason we didn't mention the very likely possibility of a sequel is that Joss already said they want to do a sequel before Dr. H was even released to the public. It was actually the very first Q asked after the Dr H screening at CAA (like 1 min after credits) and Joss said "only totally!" That first news abt a possible sequel was a definite maybe, and this was a maybe definitely, and it seemed too much the same to report twice. Also, we are so so tired. And we have editors who never let us have any fun. :) BTW, the watchwithkristin Flickr has some more pix too if you need/want.

That is what was interesting. At least, to me. What is less interesting is what happens when Dr. Horrible has arrived as a supervilain. Yes, I'm sure this creative team can think of fun ways to mess up the status quo and get some more mileage out of this idea, but truly, the whole point of Dr. Horrible is that it's a finished origin story with the endresult (a supervillain) less interesting that the dramatic, funny and involving journey of how he got to be that way.

But then again, I was one of the people who didn't (and still doesn't) get your original complaint of it not being finished, so there is that :).

I'm in the camp that was fine with it being a one-off only, because that ending was like a definitive iron door slamming shut. His fate was sealed and the audience left to imagine that fate. However, someone above mentioned a prequel and that's something I can get behind. I have a feeling it would be put together/written a lot better than a famous movie prequel trilogy (of course, they used Episode rather than Act but apples/oranges).

ETA - if Joss & Co. do a sequel, then cool. I don't want the power of that ending diminished somehow though, that's my concern.

Besides the fact that I disagree...well...totally, how do you know what the whole point of Dr. Horrible is? It seems like there have been quite a few differing opinions on that.

Sure, Dr. Horrible is now a recognized, card carrying super-villain, (The ELoE must have cards, right?) but his face at the end does not look like a man reveling in his life of villainy. Now he has dug the hole, does he try to climb out, does he dig it deeper or do something else entirely? Numbness wears off after a while and you are left with yourself in the new situation that you have made, was made for you, or happened while you were being numb and were not paying attention.

Since the story is about him, we are not talking about a 1 dimensional character there solely to mess up the world so the hero can save the day. He is the one with the layers and the conflicts. Peter Parker became a super hero, is that the end of what made his story interesting? Dr. Horrible could be a really interesting character and I would love to see him developed further. Sure, if he was being handed over to another team to develop, I'd say no thank you, but this group has a pretty good track record of going for the complex and interesting in characters. (At least Joss does, and I expect the others will develop one...a track record, I mean.)

I agree with newcj. The look of devastation on Billy's face - the final thing we see - does not slam the door shut on future stories. If anything, it provokes me to wonder what is left of Billy and what course he will now take as a conflicted "Horrible." It all vaguely reminds me of the Illyria character struggling with the bits of Fred left inside. That's a stretch, I know (so many non-parallels), but still. I can't help feeling that vibe, as silly as it may be.

I understand the "don't mess with perfection" issue, but if Joss and the team want to take the story of Billy/Horrible further, I cannot wait to see what they come up with.

I'm not gonna write a full analyses about why I want or not more Dr. Horrible and just say that: I want more Dr. Horrible because I NEED to hear more of Dr. Horrible singing! It's not enough NPH singing in other Joss' musicals, I NEED Billy buddy! =P

Sure, more is not, sometimes, better... but in this case, I'd happily take the risk.

newcj, I'm not claiming to know what the whole point of Dr. Horrible is, I'm putting forward what I think the whole point of Dr. Horrible is. Because you asked - even if that was semi-rhetorically:

I am actually pretty surprised so many people are saying they do not want to see more. Many people called this an origin story. What is the point of an origin story if there is no continuing story of the character it originated?

This is what I was disagreeing with (not with the question if there could be a continuation). I think that thematically, and storywise, there's no denying the fact
