Whoo-hoo! New TV to watch. Dr. Horrible Online in July. The Guild in August. Nothing new/good is on except Dr. Who. I've been watching Buffy Season 7.

I watched the first episode on the internet. Computer/connection way too slow to watch them all.

I think NTSW format means NTSC format, which is a standard TV aspect ratio like Buffy rather than widescreen like most of Angel and all of Firefly. Either that or it's NoT Safe for Work format, in which case please disregard.

NTSC doesn't really have anything to do with fullscreen/widescreen. The region 1 Buffy/Angel/Firefly DVDs are all NTSC. It's a TV encoding standard that's used in North America as well as a few other places, as opposed to PAL which is used in Europe and much of the rest of the world. Wikipedia tells all.

Basically, it's just saying that the DVD will be playable on any North American DVD player. If you're in a PAL country you'll need to have an NTSC converting player. Shouldn't have to worry about regions though since I'd assume it's a region free DVD.

Thank you for clarifying. I was mixing up Standard Definition v. High Definition with aspect ratios. The two are related concepts (HD has a higher aspect ratio than SD, generally, although you can do stuff to make SD wide screen) but not interchangeable.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the people who heard some of us begging for English subtitles on the DVD and who have come to the party. Just for making this (deaf gals) life somewhat easier... I'll buy two copies!

Last night I had to sit through (an unsubtitled) S3 of Catherine Tate while wondering what everyone was laughing at. Tis no fun.

(And I sincerely hope the Dr Horrible crowd are taking note, too.)

Someone did post about it on the Official Fan site. http://doctorhorrible.net on the message board. And also since Joss is taking direction/hints from Felicia Day, we would hope it would since hers did.

Need captioning on the outakes too. Sometimes on the outtakes, the words are not clear at all and turning on the captioning helps alot to get all the funny.

It appears so. I placed an order and they didn't seem to make any disctinction bewteen US and elsewhere except for converting the cost before charging it to my credit card. My order with an Australian credit card to an Australian address was made easy by a handy drop down menu list of Australian states/territories and was accepted at a price of only AUD 21.93!

Yay for a TV and DVD player that both play NTSC and region 1 as well as the local stuff.

Anonymous1 you're right of course, but I hope both of them provide numbers so that the fans know how well they are selling.
Comparing the more well known names of Dr Horrible with the longer term web presence of the Guild would provide some interesting food for thoughts.

My understanding is that people in Europe, at least, are likely already to have TVs which can display NTSC without the need for a converter.

AFAIK, it's more that we're more likely to have DVD players that have converters built in. The TV just plays whatever signal it's sent so most of the multi-region heavy lifting is done by the DVD player (you couldn't take most PAL TVs to the US and watch NTSC broadcasts for instance).

A fair proportion of my DVDs aren't region 2 and i've never had issues playing them - even on my previous telly which had scorch marks from the big bang on the casing ;).

(early players would sometimes output NTSC signals in black and white or not at all but - to my fellow unAmericans ;) - if your DVD player's 5 years old or less that's very unlikely to be a problem I reckon)

I've gone ahead and pre-ordered but thinking about it, i'm not sure I should have - clearly the free postage offer is going to cost more for overseas buyers, feels like i'm taking the piss slightly by effectively paying less for the DVD. Might donate a few dollars to compensate.

I'm used to ordering things overseas, and despite the fact of them clearly being a lot more expensive than local postage, it's not so much, that I'm not willing pitch in those few bucks myself.

Carter had a "gammy" or "gammer" on 'E.R.', before that i'd never heard it. There's a UK slang word "gimmer" though that basically means "old coot" (though it's morphing into something like "idiot"), might be related.
