Dark Horse's Serenity lucite ornament cancelled? The fansite SerenityStuff.com notices that "TFAW has removed the laser-engraved lucite ornament from their preorders and sent cancellations to early buyers".

It also looks to have disappeared from the Dark Horse site as well.

Thank goodness. They're listening.

I take it you weren't a fan of it then.

It's so pretty, though!

It did look a bit tacky. Not as tacky as a Serenity Spirit Animal but tacky all the same.

The "Spirit Animal" wins the tacky award, not to mention the total lack of relevance award.

... the milking award, the vast mark-up award, the WTF?-est award ...

I quite like that ornament, if it was sort of paperweight size and didn't require the mortgaging of my other kidney I might even have considered it.

I wanted one as soon as I heard about it. But when I actually got to see it, it wasn't so great. Not really great detail. But that being said, I still would have bought it.

How much cost it?
I buyed one of this things, with a little Angel inside, and was very cheap - Ok, it was hand sized and made in from China, but still.

TFAW had it down as $16.99 Brasilian Chaos Man (which is pretty reasonable, depending on how it actually looks "in the flesh").

Serenity spirit animal? What the-?

You know how to use Google and the archive search :) On the off chance that you don't - Link.

Thanks Saje!
Here this means almost 30 bucks - 4 times the little Angel.

Seriously. And don't forget how it just reeks of this. (Note: Technically safe for work, but might embarrass you in front of your coworkers.)

Not so sure this ornament is tacky anyway, just kind of silly, but then I'm not sure I like the "laser-engraved lucite ornament" concept in and of itself.

The spirit animal stuffed fox was also the clear winner for Ironic Marketing Choice. The ornament was just strangely boring.

I noticed it disappeared sharpish off the QMX site after I posted about it on the front page.

That Furry video is a little creepy, but I like the music. Is there a way to have one without the other?

Oh, BTW, at the CSTS screening, they mentioned soundtracks for Firefly & Serenity? Are they good? What's on them? I just watched Serenity, and I don't see how the music on the movie can make a whole soundtrack.

Both soundtracks are good. I'd love to see a panel sometime with Greg and David discussing scoring the verse.

Here's the Serenity soundtrack on Amazon (there's a link to the Firefly soundtrack there, too.) It's just the thematic music from the movie. The Amazon reviews aren't too favorable, but I own it and I kinda like it. It's not singalong music, or really anything that you'd listen to over and over again, but I've enjoyed listening to it while doing work on the computer.

Close your eyes ?

;-)

Thanks, dollrific for the link. I'll check into it.

Thanx, Saje, for being smart---. I did leave myself open for that one, huh? :)

Well, I was thinking of having the music to listen to in the car. I'm not skilled enough to figure out how to put YouTube on my iPod, but I don't think I want to anyway. I was just wondering if the group is a professional band of sorts or are they just fan-musicians?

I blame Amsterdam for the Furry-fear. There was a "doc"umentary on Furry conventions and some other late-night X-rated stuff that blew out my circuits. I wasn't prepared to see that. On an HBO 15-minute special, yeah. Not a 2-hour show, though.

Why didn't we just turn the TV off? Cuz we're stupid.

ETA: I was going for humor, and I thought it was funny. I don't think it would offend Saje, but just in case I'm mis-interpreted, I edited myself. Don't want to get banned for making a dumb come-back. (Who can top Saje at jokes, though? No one.)

Close your eyes ?

And think of England?

... covered in fur. There goes the tone.

(no worries korkster, totally unoffended ;)

Official word has come through: "The market didn't show any significant support for the lucite ornament during the solicitation period, so we were forced to make the unfortunate decision to cancel production."

When I first saw this post, I read it as a "luddite" ornament, and I was having trouble understanding its Serenifly-relevance. Now I want really do want a luddite ornament to put on top of my computer screen.

I think those spirit animals are actually kinda cute, but obviously have nothing whatsoever to do with Serenifly in any way I can think of... unless they made furry dinosaurs or somethin'.

QuoterGal,

Hmmm, Serenity crew as dinosaurs. QMX Spirit dinosaurs.

Think we need to send in some ideas to Dark Horse.

How about a Mule ornament with crew figures?

Mule ornament without crew?

What about the regular Serenity ship ornament in clear acrylic? Remember that Serenity that was carved out of ice a few years ago. That was shiny.

Mule ornament with Jayne hanging off the back, please! I'm saving up my money.

madmolly,

Whoo-hoo!
