Ah I dont think he steals it:) If I am right - I'm guessing that Spike tries to go see Angel and the Dragon is stopping him (since it is right in front of the W+H building)...this is during Angels 'broken back' phase.(As opposed to his "Brokeback" phase which I am sure many Spangels would love:))

It just occurred to me: Spike's originally a middle-to-upper-class Brit and Angel is originally not-wildly-well-off Irish. Of course Spike steals stuff from Angel; the British spent centuries robbing the Irish blind!

Angel is originally not-wildly-well-off Irish.

Pretty sure Angel's (Liam's) family was well off for the Irish at that time. They were merchant class and had a servant. So maybe by British standards of the time not well off, but by Irish standards - doing very well.

General theory on "another board" is Angel 's family were secret Catholics pretending to be Anglican for busienss and social reasons. As if Joss knows enough about either religious or Irish history to have had that in mind ahead of time.

Besides, even with the soul Spike and stealing don't seem to me incompatible.
