Fun site of Jossisms. Thinkexist.com (tagline: Finding quotations was never this easy!) lists 67 of their favorite Whedon quotes, along with the opportunity to add to it.

Fun...and a great way to waste time! I love Joss's quote about loving writing more than sex; it's so...Joss.
I quote Joss's stuff all the time, though, so if I memorize any more of these, people may just shoot me in the feet until I say something else.

That's one reason I love this site: every time I click something, I get to reminisce and laugh. Which rocks.

Okay, this is nitpicky, but can we please fix the unnecessary apostrophe? I know why Lynn Truss goes insane, now!

There was a PDF of Joss quotations going around the Internet a while back, I can't for the life of me remember where though. If you can find it, it's a good read.

Registration required for page 5 on.

I'm always bothered by "registration required" sites. Why do they need to know who I am just so they can throw ads in my face? They can throw ads in my face just fine without me having to think up some pseudonym involving a raccoon in a blender.

Seems like the serious quotes are more popular than the funny ones. I'm partial to the funny, myself.

Like the one at the top of the page right now, which says, "I'm 1120 years old! Just give me a frickin' beer!"

Mine is: "Billions of people walking around like Happy Meals with legs."

A very sound excuse of why vampires should not terminate humanity. I mean, who wants to live off of rats besides Angel?

Er. Aren't some of these quotes from scripts that could have come from the credited writer or Joss? Buffy: A One Man Show again? Or are these entirely from scripts he wrote? I'm sort of skeptical that thinkexist would make that distinction.

That's a good point, Sunfire. Although the writers that have worked with him never seem to mind giving him tons of credit, and in fact they often sound quite worshipful, and while he always gives THEM tons of credit, I don't know if they get recognized as often as they should.

Some of those quotations were oddly truncated. On the 3rd or 4th page, there is one that just says "as opposed to irate." Kind of weird. Why would they quote half a sentence out of context?

"... and a great deal of it is absolutely fatal" -Oscar Wilde

hmm.

I don't think it really makes finding quotations easy at all. Perhaps that's only for registered people? It doesn't look like they're particularly organized in any way, and if people submit them, are they vetted in any way?

"...angry atheist. Yet I am..." - Joss Whedon

"...life doesn’t suck." - Joss Whedon

"That's a good point... go long.. less heartache..." - Joss Whedon

"I want to take this film and cover it in oil and rub it all over my body..." - Joss Whedon

Moi, I only like quote sites that cite - which are rare (and the provision of cites/attributions is just one of the nifty reasons to use bartleby.com, although there are others.)

Thinkexist, like many other quote sites, also doesn't always distinguish between what Joss said in an interview, what Joss wrote in a show, what someone else wrote on a Joss show, and what someone else wishes Joss had said in an interview. Quote sites where anyone can contribute should be viewed a little like imdb or wikipedia... i.e., not necessarily accurate and occasionally annoying.

Sometimes WikiQuote is good - here's a few cherce Joss-quotes, and there's that compilation that MattK mentioned, from SlayageOnline. (And then there's me and maybe one of these lifetimes I will finally pull a pretty Joss Quote Compendium together and post it at my site...)

"Power to the people who are powerful enough to crush the other people!" -jossy.

Thanks, QuoterGal, for that "jossy" quote. Makes me wish I was here since the birth of Whedonesque. It's obvious that I've missed much.

Aw, korkster, I've only been here a couple of years myself, but when I want something good and Jossy and fun to read online, I go and read the whedonesque tagged Joss-posts - they are a rich source of Jossian quotes and vitamin-J.

Also of general whedonesque interest are the earliest posts from from June 2002 - there are some great things from such an early time that only one or two people have commented on them.

History is fun. (I'm trying to cut down on my exclamation point usage - it's one of our precious natural resources...)

Thank you for the wonderful links, QuoterGal! So much more satisfying than Thinkexist.com.

(I'm trying to cut down on my exclamation point usage - it's one of our precious natural resources...)

I get that. As long as you aren't cutting down on the use of italics. In my many moons as a lurker here, I've always been impressed by the perfection of your italicizations. I am trying to cut back on question marks. But it's difficult, because I'm so frequently confused.

Where did this random quote about caribou come from?
"I also don't trust Caribou anymore. They're out there, on the tundra, waiting... Something's going down. I'm right about this.”
Is that Joss himself, or am I forgetting it from one of his shows? Cause that is seriously funny.

QuoterGal, I'm seriously loving your work. Thinkexist should have a quote section for all your QuoterGalisms. Especially the exclamation mark recycling classic many a moon and posts ago. Not to mention the FBI/CIA former membership intrigue. You are very literary and of good the written word. If we can't have Joss until January, then at least we've got you. (Please note that I have eliminated the exclamation mark usage as a sign of respect and of natural resource wastage minimilisation and also because I was the one who caused the shortage in the first place)! <- Oops.

I actually think I remember reading that "I also don't trust Caribou..." quote, and I feel like it may have been on this site. Of course, I could be wrong because like Catherine, I too am frequently confused.

And I do agree that not all of those quotes should be attributed to Joss. I think people like to tag things with terms they know will get hit (because we all checked that site didn't we?)

Hee. Thanks for the compliments - there is no other Joss but Joss, if that is the phase I want, but I'm glad I can amuse in the interim...

I believe the Jossy-caribou-thingy came from a Joss-posting at the Bronze Beta about "Once More With Feeling" shortly before it first aired - it's archived here.

It reads in full:

"Forgot to mention: The guys a UPN said they'd get a linear board up by the time the ep airs so I can check in and see what people thought. But keep the pressure on! Just in case. Also, soundtrack... we're definitely going to put one out, but it may take a while cuz of contract bull$@&%, MAN it's been a nightmare trying to set that up. I'm hoping to have place at Buffupn for people to log on and click if they're interested in buying it. If we set it up, click away! (but if you do, just once, so we can get an accurate number). I guess some execs didn't think there'd be much interest, but I'm not looking to go platinum, just some streaks or highlights.... sorry. Hair secrets. Not looking for a hit record, just want those who want it to be able to get it. But every step has been painful and insane and pretty much shaken my faith in humanity. I also don't trust Caribou anymore. They're out there, on the tundra, waiting... Something's going down. I'm right about this."

Incidentally, when you want to read more Joss and you've exhausted his whedonesque posts, you might enjoy checking out the varied posts from the archived Bronze Beta V.I.P. archives - there's some great stuff in there:

"Words of inspiration? Don't know. Should probably have some handy. For me, though I desperately crave fame and fortune like the next guy, writing, the act of writing, the rhythm and flow of the english language, the creating of internal universes... it's the greatest peace I'll ever know. It's its own inspiration. Write, and it'll give you more than I could with a writely platitude. Did that make the
slightest sense?"
- Joss, (Fri Jan 2 19:13:24 PST 1998) - archived from the original Bronze via several sources

Jossaholic, we should start a Quotergal fanpage. We could ban people for overpunctuating. Or for making up words like "overpunctuate."

She strikes again! Lovely jossy-quotes.

Catherine, teehee. Banned from our own "QuoterGal-vanisations" site. At least we wouldn't be using up those valuable punctuation resources! <-Oops again.

What?? Punctuation a finite resource??? I think not!!!. ;_)

A million thanks QuoterGal, for the Bronze archive link, that forum was before my late coming to the fandom time.
