This might actually get me to watch Lifetime. Even if I'll never admit it.

I'll be watching. At least I will watch the scene he is in. I don't know about the rest. I have a hard time watching horror shows based on true horrors. I much prefer fantasy horror, the real stuff is just too real.

I think I may have just found the one James Marsters appearance I will never voluntarily watch. Got enough of the real thing from the local news & deep-set paranoia throughout my formative years, and that's not a name I want to associate with his face.

(Besides, these days I'm stuck with Reichert as my congressional representative (our political opinions do not align), so I think I can pass on the glorified TV version, thanks.... ;)

If James' scenes end up on YouTube, I'll watch them, but I'm not inclined to watch a serial killer movie based on a real one. I went through a phase some time back where I read a lot of true crime novels. Maybe it was an actorish thing, trying to understand human nature and psychology. A lot of those books were Ann Rule's, one of which was her The Stranger Beside Me, about Bundy. I think that was the book that broke me of ever wanting to read that stuff again. I never say never, but the suffering of the families became too horrific. I barely made it through the television version of that book, starring Mark Harmon, who was riveting as Bundy. A great white shark in a huge pond filled with nubile, naive young women. Nope, can't do it.

Looking at it like that, yeah-- that kind of bursts the bubble.

But I still want to see it-- and I don't have any good defense as for why I want to see it. Marsters is just so good at being bad. And in this case not even good-bad: it's bad-bad.

Maybe it gets too easy to remove yourself from history as time goes on. Bundy was in the generation before I was born (in 1979, woo). Maybe we kind of make charicatures for public figures before we're born. It's literally before time existed for us.

I dunno. I don't have a good excuse. I wanna see him play it.

I don't think you really need to defend or excuse it dispatch. If it glamorises Bundy then it's disgusting (and I doubt JM would involve himself with it), otherwise it's an insight into another aspect of human beings and the stuff we do. If a Whedon actor chose to play Hitler or Stalin it wouldn't bother me one bit, it's just a role.

I also read a lot of true crime stuff when younger (not really victim accounts, more behavioural science stuff by guys like Ressler and Douglas that practically invented profiling etc.) and though I don't anymore it's still fascinating IMO.

(I can totally understand if people don't want to wallow in it though, everyone has their own line - mine would probably be a portrayal of a true-life serial killer that's still active though I doubt anyone would be irresponsible enough to make a picture like that)

I think I would agree with Saje's first sentence, although I must say I always feel a little creepy watching such things. I'm not much of a fan, although I would like to see JM's performance.

Bundy hits a little close to home (literally), though. I work within a short walk of where he did some of his nastiness, although I wasn't here when he did his nastiness.
