1. The Pan's Labyrinth DVD extra featuring the conversation with/among/between Del Toro, Cuaron, and Inarritu is one of the greatest things ever.

I've been wanting to see Del Toro's Cronos (speaking of vampires) ever since I caught a trailer for it years ago. I'm hoping that Del Toro gets famous enough for Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy that there'll be enough demand for his earlier work that Cronos gets re-released on dvd and netflix can get it.

He mentioned the Giant's Causeway, did they actually film there? I went there many times as a child, half my family is from Northern Ireland. Awesome place.

I loved Pan's Labyrinth, and plan on getting acquainted with Chronos and Mimic sometime. It's nice to know that he's familiar with Buffy and Firefly.

I just briefly checked Wikipedia and there's a link to The Guardion which says it was announced yesterday that he will be directing a two part film adaptation of The Hobbit? That's excellent news, and funnily enough when I was discussing The Hobbit on another forum Del Toro was one of the people I suggested would do a job job of it if Peter Jackson isn't going to. I think it will be in safe hands, although I'm not convinced it needs to be two separate films.

I watched Cronos from Netflix a couple of years back. They don't have it any longer? Definitely worth seeing. But I think that The Devil's Backbone is still GDT's masterpiece.

It's in the "waiting" section of my queue. Maybe all their copies were lost or destroyed. I'm not actually a horror fan and until Pan's Labyrinth didn't know anything about Del Toro, but I remember the trailer capturing my imagination. Unfortunately the movie didn't stay at our art-house cinema long enough for me to get to it.

I have not had a chance to watch Pan's Labyrinth but I keep meaning to. Now that it is looking like he will be doing the hobbit I will definitely have to make it a priority. I am a Tolkien fan and I'm hoping they do the movie right. Guess he at least has good taste in TV series so that makes me feel better.

Razor, The Hobbit itself will only be one film, IIRC. The second one is a sequel to The Hobbit, bridging the gap between it and LOTR.

I don't know about The Hobbit thing, sounds like a rumour to me (though I havn't checked any sourceS). If it's true that would be bloody fantastic, though. Though I liked his work before, since Pan's Labyrinth Del Toro has become one of my favourite modern directors.

I must be the only person on the face of the planet who thought Pan's Labyrinth was good, but nothing special. The sociopolitical metaphors seemed heavy-handed and obvious to me, and I thought the fantasy sequences were mostly ordinary and a distraction from the film's true drama, the crackling real-world sequences. Still, I liked it, which is more than I can say for Hellboy (love the comics, though).

But still cool such a high-profile guy is a fan.

Del Toro's involvement with The Hobbit isn't a rumour, although I'm not certain it's set in stone either yet. Could be wrong though. Been a week or so since I read anything on the subject.

Can't wait to see what they choose to do with the second movie. There is so much that happens between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings that would make for interesting viewing. Not sure what the central story to build the movie around would be though. It's more lots of smaller events, few of which could really be the core of the story. I suppose they could possibly leave the White Council's assault on Sauron at Dol Guldur out of The Hobbit entirely and have that be the second movie's focus. Either way, I'm looking forward to both movies.
