"Sarah Connor Chronicles" website revamped.
The website has 'officially' opened, now with several videos, 34 new posters (from the contest?), and an animated, floating, armless Summer! (Um.)
Armless terminator Poster Summer? Pretty cool.
Armless terminator Floating-in-the-middle-of-the-page Summer? More than a little creepy.

Summer's either in a hit TV show with this one, or a really big flop.

Society has chosen to "sexualize" the female chest but ultimately both men and women are stimulated by a well developed chest, no matter what gender they personally like. That being said, if we are going to have a problem with anybody seeing this image of Summer as a sexual thing then we are also going to have to complain the next time that David Beckham, Robbie Williams or any other guy uses their naked upper body to sell a product. If we don't have any complaint with a guy's chest being used to sell a movie poster, cd cover or whatever else, then we can't then say that using a female chest for the same reason is wrong. Because that is simply the flipside of sexism, to me.
As for the image in question, as long as Summer has no problem with it, then neither do I. It's her body and really only she should care how it is represented.
Damn, I promised myself no more boob talk at Whedonesque! :)

This doesn't mean the double-standard is right. I would equally be offended by a dismembered male figure in the same situation.

Unfortunately, this is not how things work in the real world. FOX has created that image and Summer's personal feelings likely have little bearing on FOX's use of that image.
Regardless, if Summer thinks it's okay, doesn't mean I can't still be offended by it. A lot of actors and directors make terribly exploitative films - I still hate them, whether or not they approve.

In which case, to you there is no double-standard (or at least the double-standard isn't what bothers you) as you are offended by the nature of the image, rather than the supposed "sexuality" of it, which wasn't the point I made.
My point was to those that are making a big deal about this in regard to it being a female image when a male image in the same situation would likely have gone without mention. Obviously that doesn't apply to how you personally feel about it.

True enough, but again not my point. I never claimed to know that Summer approved of the image or absolutely hated it and it's very true that Fox probably wouldn't need her approval regardless. What I'm saying is that unless Summer happens to be the one doing the complaining about how she is represented then I'm happy to let it go. If she came on here and said that she was firmly against the image, then I'd have a problem.

Which is fair enough, but that is where our opinions differ. I see that image and believe that there is only one person in this world that needs to care or be offended by what it is, and that is Summer Glau. For me, she is the only person on the planet that has any real reason to worry.
Now, if it was a photograph of a real human body that had been sliced and diced for the sake of "art" and then strung up and put on the internet, we would all have a reason to be worrying. A fake image of an actress who is clearly representing a cyborg in a science fiction show, however? Not really worth my time or effort to be offended.
