Whedon & Mutant Enemy at The Gates. Comic Book Resources covers Mutant Enemy Day and the issues surrounding the strike. Has a great bit about Joss' son asking him about why he could still write comic books when he's on strike.

It's a great read but

Fans4writers.com invited the man himself, along with writing and acting alums from Joss Whedon shows past and present, to join 400 fans outside Fox studios to express their support for the striking writers.

Love reading all these articles. Makes me feel less awful at not being there. You know, with tray and banner held proudly.

Yeah it was good of you lot to let Joss come along (gotta say though, when his "+1" turned into about "+35", I bet a few people were miffed, and did he bring so much as dip or those wee sausages on sticks ? Pfft).

Good article in most other ways though, gets the ideas across. It's also nice to see some pro writer spin in the press for a change (albeit not exactly "mainstream" press).

And I hadn't realised the Disney/ABC fellows had walked, that's as big a sacrifice as most are making I reckon, giving up an opportunity like that. Good for them.

Freaking press. Thanks for the clarification. I suppose the explanation that you were a fan group for a not-yet-produced movie was selectively edited even as they took their notes into "Fan group we are reporting on. Check."

Good, if Joss comes to Portland, I can give away more grr argh finger puppets. I forgot to bring them to the picnic, and ended up with a surplus. Care for a monster?

ETA* Ah, I see there's been a correction made in the photo caption. Thanks, Valerie (who, I noticed marching in the picket line with a rhythm and style that couldn't be ignored. I smiled every time we passed each other!) :)

And, note to self - bring the monsters if Joss comes to the Portland of Oregon.

I'm starting to think that the misnamed "producers" are cutting their own throats. The creative artists truly can't afford to take the current offer. Maybe the last time they negotiated contracts they could tell themselves that their financial security depended on producing (in a more literal sense of the word) shows that built large enough lasting audiences to enter broadcast and cable syndication, but now they all understand that financial security depends on getting a share of the new media. If they don't get that, they may have short-term jobs, but not long-term careers. Nothing to work toward. No future.

Taking the offer would be like investing all their retirement savings in a paper company. Not just weak, but dumb.

Yeah, that's exactly what happened here - I emailed her about it right after she posted the photo, but it didn't get changed, and then Comic Book Resources did their research and perpetuated the error from her caption.

I think she must have seen all of us Gonerses grouped around Joss, and at least two people taking photos of us, and just figured that meant we were the organizers - when actually some, but not all, of us were. I think our photo op was really something of a kindly Jossian pity-shot, because of Gonerses being more back-burnery now...

Good article though.

That he also said it (separately) to the interviewer makes me think it's a very real possibility.
