Have a look at the Serenity Collector's Edition DVD packaging.
No, not the cover. This is a look inside, from a reviewer who has received their screener copy.

Looking forward in this purchase, ordering two. My little niece will trip when she watches the full version of Session 416. I'm just a mean, blued gloved devil;)

Hmmm... wrong movie? LOL (Although, it would've been fun if Glory and Faith were also in this movie)
I WANT! SO VERY PRETTY! ORDER, NOW!

Ooops my bad. Must punish myself with five sequential re-watching of the movie and remember to memorize the script (use Serenivy Companion as Companion).

I'll be adding it to my collection. Even though I've already got the original DVD.And the HD-DVD.
Poseable you say...?
Amazon.com have the front cover image.

I don't want a list of special features, just new special features. The only two major things that didn't sound like I had seen them before were the new cast commentary and the River Tam sessions.
Superrodan | August 10, 04:44 CET
If you've seen the R2 or R4 editions, than these are the only new to you things. If all you've seen is the R1 edition, then much more is new.
ETA:
Although the Sessions shouldn't be new to you, except in the sense that they've never been on DVD before.

Waaah! I don't have a copy of Serenivy Companion. I'm feeling some Serenvy, I guess.

Ah, well, here. (Also, a hidden black-on-black link there will take you to a rather lengthy discussion of/backgrounder on them.)

Actually, the Sci-Fi Channel Special thingie is also a new extra, I think, for people with R2 versions or R4 versions.
In time. Out of Curiosity, for whoever might be interested in those useless trivia. Brazilian R4 version, was released with two covers, sort of. At first it was released in the same cover as the Australian version, but with red coloration and foil effect on it. Later, they released it in the more traditional blue tone, without the foil effect.
The Extras included were a mix of the other releases:
* A Filmmakers Journey
* Deleted Scenes
* Outtakes
* Future History - The Story of Earth That Was
* What's In A Firefly
* Joss Whedon Introduction
* Feature Commentary
* Easter Egg - We'll Have A Fruity Oaty Good Time
One of these days, I think I'll take a picture of the different versions I own and psot it in the Library.
Argg... typos... Serenity Companion...... must review more before I post... must review more before I post...
But QG, couldn't miss the chance for a little joke on my expense, right? :P

No offense to anyone out there that might have had a hand in it or is looking forward to this release more than I, but I don't like when a company holds back stuff with the intent of double dipping into the fanbase of their properties. I understand the commentary is brand new, and again I will be getting it for that, but it leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.
Maybe it's just me.
Superrodan | August 10, 05:14 CET
It's not the entire read-through. It's a portion of it in one of the featurettes. (Which, for the purposes of this question, is a "yes".)

Except that it's not just two, if we're comparing the original US release and this US release.

Plus, no llamas.
Numfar PTB | August 10, 05:22 CET
I don't think Universal did it deliberately in this case. They seemed perfectly happy with the way it was until we wouldn't stop buying the darned thing, thus ruining all their DVD sales projections for the past year and a half. They get really cranky when their projections are out of whack. ;-)
cabri | August 10, 05:37 CET
I myself deeply appreciate the return of my ability to edit on whedonesque - the past few days, I was dropping typos like candy on here, and it was killing me.
Now, back to our regularly-scheduled llama.
ETA: Nothing to see here. Move along.

Yeah! I bet their DVD sales projections for Serenity were 0 for most of 2006 and all of 2007 like most of their "old" movies.
Also I wonder how many movies Universal has that are still getting Theater Box Office money two years after release!
imdb.com US map of Serenity Screenings
And how many movies are getting Official merchandise money and new merchandise contracts two years after release!

I can't think of anything positive to say about the special DVD, not because it doesn't look very nice but because everybody will already have theirs before I get it. It's the Serenity theatrical release all over again. I'll be out of the country, (just shortly) but when I get back and get my copy, everybody will be talked out about it. I'm envious and petty.
dreamlogic | August 10, 11:59 CET
I suspect i'm not going to wait for a hypothetical (albeit very likely) future UK release and so will order from the US.
Plus, no llamas.
This is NOT a plus ! Sure, we're all dead set against bigotry of any kind except anti-Llama prejudice ? Inadvertent DVD Cover Llamas of the world, rise up ! Unite against your oppressors ! Generally be a bit like smaller, less stroppy Camels !
Looks very nice. Is it just me though or are the images air-brushed even more than they usually are ? Maybe it's just because they've played with the lighting but everyone's face looks slightly less characterful than i'm used to.
Saje | August 10, 13:27 CET
Gotta have llamas! Fortunately, I still have some DVD-size llama pics from the old board to fill in that gap. :-)
Everything else sounds great...can't wait!

Ditto, just replace UK, with Brazil, and the "likely" with "unlikely". Ordering mine, it'll will take about 15 days to arrive down south here, after the release date.

It's so nice to be able to post again. I just got tired of trying so didn't bother for a week when it wouldn't work reliably.
I like the new key art. MUCH better than the original.
I've got the Australian Serenity DVD so the only thing on this disk, that is not on that will be the cast commentary, the R Tam sessions and the scifi channel thing, right?
leiasky | August 10, 19:17 CET
Isn't this new disk for US release only?
It'd be great if they'd release it world wide though. More sales!
I bought a region free dvd player just so I could watch the Australian version of the Serenity dvd. Laugh
leiasky | August 10, 19:18 CET
I don't believe so. I think this impression comes from a mis-read of something Joss said in a recent interview.

Count me in with all who are relieved to have whedonesque.com back in fine form. I missed it. Lack of whedonesque access makes me cranky and twitchy. Thank you to the fine person (Milo?) who solved the problems. Thank you.

Yeah, I was afraid this was going to happen. That bright idea some of us had about pre-ordering directly from UHE? We'll probably be the last people to actually get them. Heh.
The One True b!X | August 10, 22:14 CET
And thanks Kiddo, your deeply evil act of temptation has forced - forced I tell you ! - me into buying the CE from PlayUSA. I may also have semi-advertently pre-ordered the Babylon 5 DVD from PlayUK too.
I don't know how you sleep at night ;-).

You can still get one direct from Universal says ship date 08/19/2007. I ordered one direct from Universal as a thank you and more please! I'll also be picking up some Christmas presents at Best Buy and wherever else I can find it.
