Variety reports that 'How I Met Your Mother' is renewed.
Alyson Hannigan's sitcom will go to a third season. In related Whedonverse alum news, Variety also says that Supernatural and Smallville got picked up as well. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, Veronica Mars "won't be coming back".

Good news from some, bad news from other.
I'm definetely happy for the renewal of HIMYM (yesterday's Season Finale was Legen -- wait for it... hahah).
It'll be sad to see Veronica Mars, go away though. It still had so much promise.

But, I'm very happy for Alyson. And happy about Supernatural and Smallville. :) Both shows have employed Whedon vets, so obviously, they have good taste in actors/actresses.

I'm really looking forward to this. And its protagonist runs a pie shop..., which I can only say is very... Gonerian of him...
*ducks*

This is just plain cool news. I heart Wonderfalls more than most things.
Sucks about VM though. If true.

I was (wrongly) convinced that VM would sneak through, but no luck there. Sigh.

My sympathies to all you Veronica Mars fans.

QG, was that a gynecological Whedonverse joke? If so....(winds up to pitch rotten tomatoes.) If not, my bad. I need to come over to .org and see what crazy Goners jokes are going 'round.

I'd say it basically means the suits have decided to kill it, but they're trying to avoid actually saying it out loud as long as possible.

Also excited about Pushing Daisies. I've watched Wonderfalls more than any other show ever. Bryan Fuller and Lee Pace? I'm there.
Also happy about Supernatural. I've only seen a couple of episodes of this show, but I've enjoyed them. I need to pick up the DVDs so I can watch it straight through.

greentara, it's a whole pie-Goners Movie Fan Forum thing, and the Gonerian thing - well, it's a name I use for Gonerses-prefans - among which I count myself - that gets everybody screeching and hollerin' at me, which could be easily remedied if people would just remember their Grade School Behavior 101 and not encourage me with their objections. It just makes me do it more.
I'm just drawn that way...
And in re: Veronica Mars - that was a long downhill ride, and it didn't hadna oughta needta have happened that way. If true.
Ah, crap, it's Chinatown, Jake...

Don't count Veronica out yet. Rumor is the CW freakin' loved the "Veronica in the FBI" pilot.

As for Veronica Mars....in a better world, Rob Thomas could just call the cast together whenever the hell he felt like it, and film a six-hour mystery mini-series (like PRIME SUSPECT, only with Kristen Bell instead of Helen Mirren); the networks would broadcast it as a special event (which it would be), and they'd all make a mint on the DVDs. Unfortunately, we do not live in that world.

Veronica Mars Update: "Nothing Definitive"
Veronica Mars is still clinging to life.
Despite reports this morning that the show has been canceled, Rob Thomas just assured me via e-mail that there's "nothing definitive." That jives with what I told you in Ask Ausiello: It's possible CW head Dawn Ostroff is delaying a final verdict on VM until after Thursday's upfront.
One encouraging sign: Sources say Rob has passed on CBS' offer to come aboard its new musical mystery drama Viva Laughlin! as an executive producer. (Rob declined to comment on anything Viva-related.)
Anyone wanna guess what the first question out of my mouth will be at tomorrow's CW press conference? C'mon, give it a shot.
