"Vampires Who Loved Me" by New York Times bestselling author, Teresa Medeiros, released today. Scroll down and the author reveals why Spike from BTVS is her favorite vampire..

My all time favourite literary vampire would be Barlow. Probably cause Salem's Lot (ohhhh goes into Grace Adler mode - so good) is one of two vampire books I've ever read (I think). The other being Dracula. I don't really go for romance novels or even romantic horror novels such as "Vampires Who Loved Me". I really need to read more vampire books. I like the gore and the terror and the sheer bloody menace.

Saying that I did enjoy the movie "Interview with a Vampire" but the thought of reading all of Anne Rice's epic vampire saga terrifies me.

Oh and 30 Days of Night. Best vampire comic book ever. I read it after Buffy ended and it was the perfect pick me up for my post Buffy blues.

You know, they are doing a 30 Days of Night movie. It's currently filming. It stars Josh Hartnett and Melissa George. It's supposed to come out October 2007.

I read about that, I'm reallly looking forward to it. I can imagine there will be a few Buffy comparisons a la Spike and Angel from the ususal lazy media hacks.

Buffyfantic - I had almost forgotten... /crosses fingers.

Great article ! Of course I have two favourite vamps :)

I liked Barnabas/Angelique on Dark Shadows. I remember Chris Sarandon's vampire in that movie that escapes me. There was a really sexy dance, though. I thought the Pitt/Banderos scene in INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE was beyond hot. Angel on ATS is beyond swoon worthy, but I have to agree with that author about Spike.

Simon,zeitgeist...if you go to the offical 30 Days Of Night movie website, they have behind the scenes clips already up.It's sort of like what Sony is doing with The Grudge 2.Like The Grudge films,30 Days of Night is produced by Sam Raimi and his Ghost House Pictures.

They have five videos up so far.

Cool, I'd forgotten Raimi was attached. That makes me more hopeful :)

SPIKE is definitely my favorite and I totally agree with her choice. Lestat would be my second choice I think and honestly kinda reminds me of Spike. While I'm at it I might as well confess I always did have a soft spot for good old Count Dracula himself, but none of them compare to Spike.

That's so strange, kathylovesspike. Given your login name here, I would've sworn Count Chocula would be the winner ;)

Any votes for Count Blah?

Nice to see Buffy still well-loved in pop culture. I just wish she'd spelled Drusilla's name right. :)

No love for The Count (Sesame Street)?

I'm going to have to go with Angel, because his journey of redemption really resonates for me. I love dark and broody. I even liked Louis better than Lestat.

Ha! The song of the Count reminds me of that con-played Spuffy video by HappyMe and Cybermintz... Warning...It's way naughty--not for the kiddies...

Song of the count

Scroll down to find it..

Well, she obviously has bloody good taste, that author.

Saying that I did enjoy the movie "Interview with a Vampire" but the thought of reading all of Anne Rice's epic vampire saga terrifies me.

Simon, I enjoyed The Vampire Armand and The Vampire Lestat the most, followed by Blackwood Farm. I haven't read the other vampire chronicle novels yet. I seem to go in cycles with my novel reading.

Other erotic vampires in their own way:

  • Ben Cross as the "new" Barnabas Collins was fiercely sexy, though the show itself turned out to be silly and overbaked at the same time.
  • Chris Sarandon in Fright Night. The single drop of blood flowing down the neck and back of William Ragsdale's girlfriend is one of the most sensuous images ever.
  • David Bowie in The Hunger.
  • Rick Springfield in Nick Nite.
  • Bill Paxton in Near Dark.
  • Christopher Lee, of course!

  • MissKittysMom, I LOVE Count Blah! Thank you for the giggle.

Obviously Teresa Medeiros is very intellegent and astute, and I totally agree with her rational.

    And Simon is very wise:D

But I have a soft spot for the wandering eyed Frank Langella's Dracula as well.

If Teresa Medeiros was a guy named Terence and wrote the same spiel except swooning over the sex appeal of female vamps, would anyone find it sexist? Just curious what people think, don't have a problem with it either way, myself.

I wouldn't. I love Darla (in every incarnation), and completely understand why any man would want to spent time writing swoony stuff about her.

Spike is my all-time favorite vamp but I also have big love for Barnabas Collins, Jack Palance as Drac, Angel and Count Yorga.

I loved it when all four members of the Order of Aurelious were together. Also loved the Near Dark vamps and Paxton in particular, his little jaunt on the bar comes to mind. I do like Lestat better than Louis. I guess I like the gleefully bad ones, although I did enjoy the Spike's redemption arcs. James Marsters playing Lestat would be great, but impossible as the two characters are too much alike. Can dream though.

Langella's Dracula was my all-time favorite. Until JM's Spike, of course.

    Never cared for Rice's books, though I tried to read a few. I just think her prose is way overblown and I can't get past that. So the filmed versions of same have never interested me. And wasn't Tom Cruise in one of them? *Yawn.* (/snark) ;-}

I think all the major 'verse vamps (esp. the Fearsome Foursome [aka the Order of Aurelius]!) lead the pack, way out in front of all the others created elsewhere. And, you know, Spike rules. Have I mentioned that before?

And, ooh! George Hamilton's Drac in Love at First Bite!!! Handsome and very, very funny! But, still, Spike. . . well, you know.

Miriam Blaylock aka Catherine Deneuve and of course Spike.

Awwwww Zeitgeist...I loved Count Chocula...although never could bring myself to EAT that cereal of his....muddy looking milk....ewwwww!!!
I always loved the Anne Rice books, but then I adored Lestat.
Louie was tortured and I felt his pain, but Lestat...
Lestat was just so damn 'in your face' and broke all the rules.
    He was a 'magnificent rebel'!!!!!
Maybe thats why Spike got to me so much...errrr that and well James performance too.
Anyway...there have been lots of sexy vamps over the years, but for me...Spike is the ONE!!!!!!

SangChaud glad to meet someone else who doesn't get off on Ann Rice. I *hated* Interview with a Vampire. Overblown prose and the whole eroticizing of violence thing bothered me. I'm just one of those old-fashioned types I guess - I prefer my eroticism in sex.

If we're talking about sexy vamps, we can't forget The Lost Boys!!!

Julian Luna. Even saying that name makes my heart pitty-pat.

barboo. I agree about Rice's work. Leaves me as cold as a vamp.

Hey, I liked the Vampire Chronicles. I still hold "Interview..." and "...Lestat" in high regard. Those books really resonated with me. I loved the prose. The vampire culture was dark and well-wrought, as were the personalities of the two protagonists. Well I guess Lestat was the antagonist, but you get my gist. And Claudia was brilliant. So very evil and clever of Lestat to try using her to keep Louis with him. A creature of the night, indeed.

My favorite vamp will always be Angel. The introversion, the awkwardness...totally relatable for me.

Favorite vamp = Spike - no contest
    Favorite vamp movie: The Hunger
